texture and clay

October 14, 2011

Today was one of those fabulous studio days where time seems to fade away and the ideas and inspiration just keep on coming.  I am a novice at pottery, but I really do love handbuilding. I currently am working out of two studios. One studio I go to overlooks Vancouver’s False Creek and it is so wonderful to feel the clay beneath my fingers while looking out onto the water. The other studio I visit weekly has such great commuinity and they use my favorite type of clay…chocolate clay (a dark brown clay). Right now I am making lots of stuff in preparattion for a handmade sale.

Here is a sneak peak:

I love to use old wooden Indian carved stamps on my clay creations. I am all about the texture!

Today I got back some things I made last spring: A personalized cup, a chopstick bowl and some textured napkin rings! Lots of fun. If you haven’t tried pottery yet, I highly recommend it!
